As water temperatures cool, the fish start getting more aggressive and really strap on the feed bags. September-October is an awesome time to come down and fish Southern Illinois. We big big numbers and we also target some giant slabs.

The bite has been on fire recently. Starting in June, the crappie have moved into the bushes. Best presentation is dropping a jig and minnow down in and around the buckbrush. Sometimes the fish are on the outside. Sometimes they are actually in the bush. You just need to figure that out. And be sure to pull the fish straight up when they bite, otherwise you’l get tied up with a snag.
